Women In Prison
In society, a woman, is the center of and the iconic symbol of the family. Ladies will always be the damsels in distress and men are instinctively responsible for them if they choose to commit their life and heart to a particular girl, but what about those women in prison? Studies show that most women who were convicted of crime are less risky and dangerous to the society compared to men, most of them were only charged for crimes that are dealing with drug abuse, physical abuse, theft, robbery or other white collar crimes. They are normally more prone to becoming more dangerous to themselves than to other people, it is because while in the process of being held inside a prison camp they tend to lose their mental health and emotional stability. Many ladies held in correctional institutions were sent hundreds of miles away from their relatives, friends and other people who are closest to their heart.
This isolation and loss of self esteem many times results in traumatic experiences like self inflicted injuries. A large number of women in prison have found it difficult to be so far away from the people they love, it is because their nature causes them to bond with loved ones and their purpose is to be care givers to the family. Unlike many male crime offenders, they become more and more depressed at the thought of not having their normal life back. With that going on, they tend to hurt themselves in ways we never could imagine. Being kept away from all the people you value most in this world is the worst punishment for most ladies, especially to those who have families and children to feed and support. Most women crime offenders are not convicted of serious criminal acts, some of them are just convicted of white collar crimes such as money laundering or drug abuse.
Many believe that almost all of the women in prison are mostly teenagers who were convicted of drug abuse, drug pushing and prostitution. The government has indicated that women are generally more prone to taking huge amounts of drugs to either relieve them from their pain or to find pleasurable satisfaction. A number of these girls were often sent from one camp to another just to undergo programs of rehabilitation or programs that will help them recover from a dark tragic past. Fortunately, there are numerous organizations that deal with these types of ladies; there are also youth counselors and self help groups that cater specifically to these women.
They give free services for those who are truly willing to change their lives for the better. With the help of these people many have slowly gained a different perspective in life. It is true that most women crime offenders are not much of a danger to society or the common good, unlike men, prison is not the answer for most women, the success rate goes up when specific attention is given to the root causes first.
